8/15/22 – This is an original WW2 production Japanese Type 30 bayonet for the Arisaka Type 30, Type 38, Type 99, and Type 96 + 99 light machine guns. This is an earlier wartime example with a hooked hand guard, and comes with a hardened leather frog. The bayonet blade is maker stamped on one side of the ricasso with a “W” stamped underneath (we’re not sure the significance of this “W”). The blade is very clean but shows evidence of sharpening along the edge and continues about halfway down the blade. The hand guard and pommel retain most of their blued finish and the underside of the handguard has a Japanese proof stamp of some sort. See photos. The scabbard has dark patina throughout but is in great overall condition with no dents or issues. The front closure strap on the frog is broken, but this doesn’t affect functionality. Overall in great shape.
