5/18/23 – This is an original WW2 production SS Dagger. The dagger is a later wartime production with nickel plated crossguards, and an RZM marked blade. The blade is maker code stamped “1317/40 SS” which is an unknown (but correct WW2) maker. The blade is also inscribed with the proper Meine Ehre Heisst Treue inscription on the side opposite the maker. There’s spotty oxidation and dark surface patina throughout the blade, as well as light surface scratches and scabbard rub wear. The edge is unsharpened, but there is one small ding along the edge as shown. The fittings have some mild surface patina. The wood grip has a crack near the “SS” emblem where the wood meets the pommel / upper crossguard. The reverse of the grip has a chip at the top as well. The grip has slight wiggle on the blade, which most likely means the grip has been replaced at some point. However, all parts / components of this example are original. The scabbard is painted black with steel fittings, and has light surface wear throughout.
