8/28/23 – This is a great and original condition 1874 Gras rifle bayonet. This example was produced in 1878 for a government contract by the St. Etienne factory; it is distinguished from the civilian version by including the date on the spine. The blade does show an honest wear patina without rust or pitting and has no evidence of re-sharpening. The bayonet and scabbard are matching with the serial number on the quillion, reading 7021. Wood grips are in great condition, only showing surface aging with no splits or cracks. While the scabbard does have a heavy patina and some pitting near the mouth, it is free from surface rust, dents, or cracks.
