5/13/24 – This is a M1921 Mauser “Bolo”, manufactured in the late 1920’s. The Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, imposed restrictions on pistol barrel lengths and calibers on German arms manufacturers. Mauser began manufacturing a compliant version of the C96 for commercial sale with shorter, 3.9 inch barrel. Interestingly enough, this one was captured by a US soldier during the Korean War and comes with an original capture document. So it ended up in Korea somehow. The gun is mismatched and has lost most of its original finish. There is obvious finish loss and brown patina throughout and areas of noticeable pitting here and there. The condition of the bore is poor – worn rifling with pitting throughout. The grips are numbered – they match each other but not the gun. They are obviously worn. Scratched into the left panel is “June 10 1951”. The right panel reads “Korea”. The capture doc is dated Aug 6 1951 and lists this gun by serial number. Comes as a rig with a fairly worn leather holster.
