2/7/23 – This is an original Type 30 Arisaka rifle bayonet from WW2. The bayonet is an earlier production, classified as a Variation A, LB-75 in Labar’s book. According to the serial number on the pommel, this falls under the 17th series of production. The bayonet has early features such as a bird’s head pommel, contoured wood grips with screws and washers, hooked crossguard, and a bright, fullered blade. This example also comes with an original ball-tipped metal scabbard and an early double-loop frog made from rubberized / hardened canvas. The bayonet blade has some minor dents and chips along the edge from use. There’s also surface discoloration throughout the blade, but this isn’t excessive wear and overall the bayonet is in very good condition. There’s natural patina on the hilt, leaving a dark rust-colored finish throughout, as shown. Inspector stamped on the crossguard. The wood grips have a few dents and bruises but no cracks. The scabbard has surface patina and a few minor dents but fits the blade nicely.
