8/9/24 – This is a Ketland & Co British Flintlock pistol. Specifically produced in England for the North American Fur Trade, these Trade pistols were intended for the use of the Trappers and the Native American population as well. The right side of the lock reads KETLAND & Co., with LONDON stamped on the top of the barrel. British “Crown P” and “Crown V” proofs on the barrel as well. Thomas Ketland was a highly successful Birmingham gun maker. He started working about 1740, and founded his own business around 1760, which then expanded into the export market around 1790. His business continued following his death in 1816, eventually ceasing operations in 1821. This one is in nice condition overall with honest “attic patina” on the metal parts. The flint is missing. The bore is nice overall but shows obvious signs of age. Very nice wood furniture for its age. Fully functional. No FFL required.
