3/31/22 – This is a nice example of a Mauser Gewehr 98. It was initially issued to the Imperial German military in 1917. It has the proper Imperial proofs throughout. It was then reworked and issued to the Nazi military, as evidenced by the Nazi military wafffen proofs on the receiver, rear sight, and trigger assembly. The rear sight is also marked with “G Date” Mauser proofs, “S/42G”. Comes with a cleaning rod. The gun is mostly mismatched and there is an import mark on the right side of the barrel. The stock has Imperial German proofs and is faintly numbered on the underside of the butt stock, but it is mismatched. There is spotty oxidation and minor pitting on the receiver. Spotty wear, spotty oxidation, and pin-pricking along the barrel. Significant finish loss and spotty oxidation on the floor plate / trigger assembly. Yellowish discoloration and tiny dots of oxidation on the butt plate. The stock is excellent but was likely lightly sanded. Noticeable bruising and scratching on the handguard. The rifling in the bore is almost completely gone with minor pitting throughout. The rear barrel band is a little loose and there is a hairline crack in the handguard under the rear barrel band.
