4/19/23 – This is an original WW1 production Gewehr 98 “Butcher” bayonet. The bayonet is a “1920 Conversion”, which has a filled-in bayonet lug as a result of the Treaty of Versailles. An interesting piece of history. The bayonet blade has signs of sharpening along the edge and some light surface oxidation throughout. This is light discoloration and mild wear overall. The crossguard is unit stamped, as is the scabbard, but they are not matching to each other. The hilt / pommel has dark patina throughout but no rust or pitting. The wood grips are in great condition. The scabbard is original and period correct, with mild surface patina throughout.
