6/16/23 – This is an excellent example of a 1915-dated Dutch Hembrug Model 1895 Mannlicher Carbine. It was the service rifle of the Armed forces of the Netherlands between 1895 and 1940 which replaced the obsolete Beaumont-Vitali M1871/88. At first it was produced by Steyr in Austria for the Dutch, but after 1904, production took place under license at Hembrug Zaandam in the Netherlands. Including the Dutch made examples, the Dutch issued about 470,000 Model 95s. This one is entirely matching (except for the butt plate) and has the proper Dutch proofs throughout. Faint “LW in circle” marking on the left side of the butt stock. This one comes with a mismatched but period-correct bayonet and leather scabbard. The metal parts have retained about 97% of their original finish. There is just minor muzzle and high edge wear. While there isn’t a lot of finish loss, there is light brown patina and light freckling covering most of the parts. More noticeable oxidation on the butt plate. The wood is nice, but there are tiny dings throughout, a couple of more noticeable gouges on the top edge of the butt plate, and some white paint marks toward the front. Nice bore with good rifling and very light pin-pricking throughout.
