10/17/24 – This set comes to us from the son of the vet that brought it back from Japan. Technical Sergeant Adolph F. Pericak served in the 3rd Battalion, 387th Infantry Regiment, 97th Infantry Division of Patton’s Third Army. His unit was the first to push across the Rhine into Germany, and he spent the rest of his time in Germany on the front lines as an infantryman. After Germany surrendered, the 387th was sent to Japan to begin occupation duties. The listing includes a signed letter from his son, detailing what he knew of his father’s military service and the history on the two items offered here. The rifle offered here is a Type 99 with matching numbers throughout. The mum has been ground and there is some notable surface rust on the underside. Unfortunately, the bore is very worn and has a deep ring of pitting inside. The real prize here is the Katana, which is a Type 98 ShinGunto. It is a handmade blade from the late 19th century. The blade has been lightly polished but good grain remains visible. The scabbard is original but shows visible wear. The blade is in good condition aside from minor damage near the tip.
