07/22/2024 – For sale is a Civil War era Poulney & Trimble Smith carbine chambered in .50 caliber. This rifle is unique with a break action breechloading action and uses a percussion cap primer. This carbine is in fairly rough condition with a lot of the finish worn away. A lot of the metal, especially on the barrel, has shallow pitting throughout and the barrel looks to have had its finish stripped sometime in the past to bare metal. The receiver has a hint of old bluing but mostly replaced by patina or worn to bare metal. The stock is in good condition but there is a chip missing and a crack at the top of the stock where it meets the receiver. The forestock is in good condition. The receiver and barrel have matching serial numbers. The bore is fairly bright with great rifling but there are spots of pitting visible whe n shining a light.
