10/7/24 – This is a very nice example of a 1944 Dual Tone P.38 with a blued barrel and a phosphate finish on the slide and frame. It is in the E block which is correct according to the research books. The black Mauser style grips are excellent and proper for 1944 production. The Mauser magazine is Eagle/135 proofed. The gun functions properly and the de-cocker works correctly. The bore is shiny and clean. The original finish is thin on the phosphate parts, as that is how these late war pistols were produced. Still, we would rate the finish to be about 90% with a thin finish on the front strap and a “swipe” of wear on the left side of the slide where the serial number is placed.
