9/6/24 – This is a rare Smith & Wesson Model 13 lightweight revolver that was produced and issued to the US Air Force. About 40,000 were initially produced but only a tiny fraction remain as they were deemed unsafe and most were destroyed by the Air Force. Cylinders would split due to overpowered ammunition being used. The finish shows some obvious wear around the barrel, cylinder and front edges of the frame . The original grips are present and matched to the frame, but barrel and cylinder are not serialized. Unfortunately, someone tried to remove the ‘PROPERTY OF U.S. AIR FORCE’ marking on the grip frame so there is also notable finish loss there. Top of frame is marked ‘REVOLVER, LIGHT WEIGHT M13’. Comes with original holster that is also marked USAF. Minty bore.
