11/8/24 – This is a very nice example of the super rare J.S.B. inspected Colt 1911A1. Those initials stand for John S. Begley, who inspected only the very last WW2 military examples produced. For a time, it was estimated that only ~25 remain or are known of the ~2000 that he inspected but some leftover and reworked frames have come out of the CMP in recent years. This particular example has been examined by Scott Gahimer, and the finish and markings were verified as original. The finish rates at ~92% with standard high edge wear, and a spot of finish loss on the fronts trap. The slide stop is refinished/replaced but correct variation. The correct barrel is present, with P proof on one side of the lug and square C marking on the other side. The bore is shiny with good rifling, and minor frost in the grooves. Risdon mag.
