11/12/24 – This is a great example of a WW2 U.S. Navy Mk 14 Mod 8 40mm Bofors gun sight. This sight was manufactured by the Crosley Corporation. The Mk 14, Mod 8 was a gyroscopic gun sight used on 40mm Bofors Anti-Aircraft guns on various Battleships, Destroyers, Cruisers, and other U.S. Navy ships. This sight was pneumatically-driven and gyroscopically-stabilized. The gyro stabilized an illuminated reticle that appeared in the sight window of the gunner. The gyro overcame the rocking and rolling movement of the ship which allowed the gunner to accurately fire at oncoming aircraft. This example is in overall great condition but does have some minor scrapes and scratches, none of which appear to have damaged the functionality of the sight. This sight comes with it’s original carrying container, as well as some original documentation.
