3/25/24 – This is an extremely rare example of the Japanese Special Purpose Test Type 1 Knife (Bayonet). The Special Purpose knife was modified from the Test Type 1 knife by the Japanese and produced in 1941 or early ’42. The original scabbard and hanger are present, and specifically designed and fabricated for this knife. The knife itself is modified by grinding from the Test Type One as evidenced by the point of the blade, and these blades were refinished in hot blue after modification. This example correctly measures 9 5/8″ overall. The bayonet is also in the proper serial range as it falls between 3083-10,000. Very few known/reported examples.
