9/10/24 – This is a great WW2 uniform from the United States Chemical Corps, also known as the Chemical Warfare Service. This uniform has been identified to the soldier who wore it. This uniform belonged to Thomas William Reed, who served in the Headquarters Detachment. Being an African-American, Thomas would have served in a segregated unit. Thomas served in Africa and Italy during the war and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. Receiving an Army Good Conduct medal, America Defense Service Medal, and the Europe – Africa – Middle Eastern Campaign medal with one campaign star. Thomas was also quite the top shot, having both qualified as a Marksman with a rifle, and as an Expert with the pistol. Thomas survived WW2 and came home to Philadelphia, where he passed away in 2012 at the age of 94. The cap does have a small amount of moth damage to the top, but overall is in great condition. The uniform and belt are in great overall condition. The leather belt remains supple with no major cracks. The belt appears to be marked by Thomas himself, with his name, rank (at that time), serial number and unit/location information.
