4/25/23 – This is an original WW1 tailor made Officer’s uniform. The uniform is a Signal Corps 2nd Lieutenant Balloonist Jacket. The jacket features thick, dark olive green twill exterior and a green-brown colored interior. The interior tag indicates the tailor to be John Wanamaker, a custom “higher-end” tailor from the time. There’s a secondary maker tag inside the left breast pocket with size “36” hand written, and an assigned lot number. The buttons are all intact and feature an embossed American Eagle on each of the pocket, shoulder, and closure buttons. A US Parachutist emblem is sewn onto the front-left breast, above the pocket and in great condition. The collar has two signal corps pins, and two “U.S.” pins. The shoulder tabs each have one “2nd Lieutenant” bar. There are a few small moth holes on the front of the jacket, mostly near the right breast pocket. There’s some more minor fraying and a few slightly larger holes on the interior liner, as shown. Excellent overall condition considering its age.
