3/26/24 – This is an original WW1 Prussian Officer’s Pickelhaube. This example has a small removeable ball on the top crown, which indicates Artillery Officer. The ball is removeable and unscrews without issue. Also, there are star shaped pips at the base of the crown exterior, although only two pips are attached as shown. This would have been for an Officer. The back spine of the helmet lacks a vent, which is an earlier design. The lacquered black leather exterior is in great shape with strong structural integrity. All original stitching still present on the front and back brims. The original scaled chin strap is still attached and in great condition, as shown. The front eagle displays natural surface patina and high edge wear but no major issues. Correct amount of high detail on the eagle which is indicative of Officer issued. The interior of the helmet has a red colored back brim and green interior colored front brim. The leather headband is excellent and original with no interior markings. The interior crown is missing the lining, as shown. The interior wear / residue indicates a silk lining was once present, which indicates officer issued as well. Price reduced accordingly. A very nice example overall.
