10/9/20 – This is a nice example of a WW1 Colt New Service revolver, manufactured in 1916. This gun was part of a British contract, evidenced by the British proofs and the fact that it is chambered in the British .455 Eley cartridge. The gun functions well and the action is smooth. It has retained roughly 60% of its original high-polish finish. There are areas of significant wear along the length of both sides of the barrel, on the cylinder, and the straps. There are other smaller areas of wear on the sides of the frame and underside of the trigger guard. There is minor pin-pricking around the muzzle and heavy spotty oxidation on the straps. The grips are original, but both are chipped around the butt. It still has the lanyard loop and lanyard. The original “crossed-pennants” marking on the cylinder is in tact, therefore it has not been shaved. The bore is excellent – shiny with strong rifling.
