2/15/21 – This is a highly desirable WW1 Pour le Mérite medal, also known as the “Blue Max”. This award was given to German pilots who showed bravery and accomplishment in combat. The medal has mild patina throughout with a gold colored finish. The top of the medal is marked “JG U.S. 938”. The black ribbon included measures 20 inches long x 2.25 inches wide, and is in great overall condition. No fraying and nice silver piping. Comes with an unmarked presentation case. The case is in great overall condition with signs of having held the medal for some time, as there is an imprint on the interior of the lid, however we can’t authenticate this as a period correct case.
