8/16/23 – This is an original WW1 production Austro-Hungarian entrenching tool. The small shovel comes with an original leather harness / cover, as shown. Measures about 20.5 inches long (~52cm), with the shovel head measuring slightly less than 6 inches wide (15cm). The shovel head is stamped with a Balkan-style cross on the front. No other markings or stamps. There are traces of original finish throughout the shovel head, mixed with dark surface patina and natural aging discoloration. The wood handle has general roughness and handling wear, but no major cracks or chips and is structurally sound. The leather harness has some scuffing and “chew” marks in the leather, but is completely intact and all original with excellent original stitching.
