6/7/24 – This is a rare and original Colt Model 1911 that was issued to the U.S. Marine Corps in 1918. Only ~5,500 1911 pistols were procured by the Marines from 1912-1918, and this example is actually part of a shipment that isn’t recorded in Clawson’s Colt book. It comes with a Colt Archives letter that states it was one of 300 shipped to the Depot Quartermaster for the U.S. Marine Corps in December of 1918. The right side of the slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY” as is correct (the Marines didn’t get specially marked pistols like the Navy did). The barrel is correctly marked with the intertwined HP marking. The bluing on the pistol shows an excellent profile but the vast majority of finish loss is on the front strap, grip safety and mainspring housing. Generally strong, shiny bore. Two-tone mag that is marked with a ‘B’ on the toe.
