07/11/2024 – For sale is a Mauser Model 1896 made by Ludwig Loewe Company for the Boers prior to the Boer War. Based on the Mauer 1893, these rifles were the Boers’ primary rifles against the British Empire. This rifle is in great condition overall with a lot of the original bluing remaining on the metal. The receiver is stamped with “Mod Mauser 1896” and Loewe’s maker mark and serial number. The metal throughout the rifle has spots of oxidation and spots of browning with age but there are no pitting or heavy corrosion. The stock is in great condition but well worn. There is an engraved signature and what could be initials on the left side of the buttstock. The rifle has matching serial numbers on the receiver, stock, trigger guard assembly, magazine floor, and bolt. The bore has great rifling and is somewhat bright but it is darkening. The rifle is missing its cleaning rod.
