05/29/2024 – For sale is an excellent example of an M1911 pistol produced by Springfield Armory in 1917. This handgun is in an overall 95% condition and retains a lot of its original, but worn, blued finish. There is plenty of wear around the muzzle and slide from holster use. The left side of the frame and slide is stamped with the flaming bomb ordnance stamp. The slide is stamped “Springfield Armory USA” and patent numbers on the left side and “Model of 1911, US ARMY” on the right side with an American Eagle. The barrel is stamped “S” and “P” for Springfield. The bore is very bright with good rifling. The firing pin stop plate has a very small crack. The handgun comes with one wartime magazine with lanyard loop. Additional photos of all Springfield “S” proofs are in the gallery.
