11/20/24 – This is a great example of an aluminum 1937 RAD Belt Buckle with Tab. The RAD or Reichsarbeitsdienst, was the Reich Labor Service in Nazi Germany. The RAD was a major paramilitary organization that was established to help mitigate the effects of unemployment that gripped Germany during the Great Depression. Young men served 6 months in the RAD prior to their military service. The RAD were an auxiliary to the Wehrmacht and operated in ways similar to the Engineers today, digging trenches, and building reinforcements. The RAD acted as reinforcement troops during Operation Market Garden, where RAD members saw combat being integrated into 9th SS Pionier Abteilung. This buckle is in great overall condition and has very little wear. The buckle is maker marked on the inside with the maker mark for G. Brehmer and the date stamp. This buckle also has its original tab, also maker marked by G. Brehmer. The leather is in good overall condition and is still pliable. The tab’s stitching is tearing, but is still present.
