6/21/21 – This is a very nice example of a Springfield Model 1861 Rifle issued to the US military in 1862. The gun has the proper military proofs on the receiver. The lock has the proper Springfield logo and is dated 1862. The butt plate is marked “US”. The stock has very faint inspector proofs on the left side. Overall, the gun is in very nice condition with spotty oxidation throughout and areas of minor pitting here and there, most noticeable around the muzzle, on the barrel bands, and on the top of the receiver. There are a few noticeable scratches on the left side of the barrel. The stock is excellent but has been sanded – markings just barely visible. The bore is excellent – shiny with strong rifling. 40″ barrel. NOTE: The trigger guard is loose/can be removed if pulled down on.
