6/25/24 – This is an excellent example of a US 1873 trapdoor bayonet. This item is in excellent condition given its age. The spike of the bayonet is in near minty condition with an excellent bluing. There are no dings or divots along the edges of the spike. The only bit of oxidation only covers about a third of the spike on the side of the “US” marking. That oxidation continues through the neck of the bayonet that mounts to the rifle. The locking swivel moves smoothly. The matching scabbard is in great condition with a consistent patina throughout but the majority of the blued finish still remains. The scabbard is US marked and the leather is in nice condition with some chipping of the leather but still holds strong pliability. The leather is marked on the backside but it is not legible.
