11/21/19 – This is an ultra rare and interesting 1906 DWM Luger that was part of a tiny French contract order by Manufacture Francaise d’ Armes & Cycles de. Saint-Etienne. This was a very limited production run of Lugers by the DWM factory for the French Arms and Cycle Works. It is reported that only about 200 were produced and very few examples exist. These Lugers fall within the standard 1906 commercial contract Lugers, with most noted in the high 40,000 or low 50,000 serial range. The pistol is chambered in 9mm Luger, which is quite rare for the DWM variant. The pistol itself is all original and matching with excellent bluing, rating at about 97%. There’s minor edge thinning, as well as a couple small areas of pinpricking on the right side, and minor oxidation on the top of the receiver. Small parts retain vast majority of the original straw. Magazine has blank wood bottom and is in excellent condition. Very nice, unmarked grips that fit like a glove. Strong, shiny bore with minor signs of use. Crown/N proofs on receiver and barrel. There is a four-digit number on the bottom of the grip frame, which is of unknown significance. Forgotten Weapons did an informative video on this variation where the four digit number was also present on the example they used, and they were also unable to verify the meaning of the numbering. The example in that video sold for over $18,000!
