10/27/22 – This is a WW2 factory-made T98 Katana with an original scabbard, fittings, Officer’s tassel, and honorable discharge paper from the GI who brought this home. The sword is not mentioned on the document, however the son of the veteran brought this to us and the discharge document puts the veteran in the pacific where he could acquire such an item. The sword is in good overall condition with a fairly clean blade with minimal discoloration. There is however some significant chipping along the edge from misuse – shown in photo’s. Besides this edge wear, there is some mild surface scratching and light speckling in various areas throughout the blade. The hand guard and fittings are proper WW2 era production and in good condition. The brown cloth wrap on the handle is broken and retied towards the base. The scabbard has typical surface aging but no major issues. Overall this is a slightly worn WW2 bring-back factory made T98 katana.
