5/28/24 – This is an original, early WW2 style T30 Japanese Rifle bayonet. The bayonet comes with an original ball-tipped metal scabbard. There’s an unusual “W” marking, located just below the Tokyo Arsenal maker stamp on the base of the blade. These markings are faint and somewhat weakly struck stamps. We’re not sure the significance of the “W” marking, but it’s likely a collector oddity or test / training bayonet. This example has early features like a bird’s head pommel, screws with rivets in the grips, hooked quillion, and a bright fullered blade. Some evidence of sharpening near the tip, and the edge is fairly clean. Light pitting and patina throughout the blade, which is in great overall condition. There’s some surface rust on the pommel and natural patina throughout the hand guard / pommel area. The scabbard has natural patina and finish loss throughout but no major issues and fits the blade nicely.
