4/11/23 – This is an original Type 97 Japanese Naval Officer Katana. This example comes with a brown tassel on the handle and leather wrapped field scabbard. The sword blade has a distinct, wave pattern tempered edge and some mild surface speckling patina throughout. This is mostly mild handling and aging wear. There’s no deep discoloration or notable flaws along the edge. The WW2 fittings have minor play or wiggle as they sit on the handle. Each washer is matching numbered with the same “bench number”. The handle is original ray skin wrapped with cloth and typical WW2 fittings. The cloth is completely intact with typical surface aging and handling wear. The hilt shows a factory logo stamp on one side and has an added signature. The field scabbard has surface wrinkling and scuffing throughout, but is still completely intact and in very good overall condition. There’s some stitching missing at the top of the leather cover and around the reinforced area on the toe.
