7/16/24 – This is a super rare and desirable Colt Model 1908 that was issued to the U.S. Navy in 1944. This is an especially desirable variant with ‘M’ preceding the serial number, which indicates it went back to Colt for mechanical correction. The ordnance wheel on the left side of the frame would have then been stamped as a “re-acceptance” mark. Many of these went to the Navy as it was the Navy that discovered the jamming issues and had them sent back to Colt, and this one is confirmed by the accompanying Colt Archives Letter as having shipped to the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland. There were only 1,500 of the Model 1908s produced for General Officer’s, so this is a very rare find. The original blue is in very good condition overall, with a couple of area of browning/thinning on the rear of the slide. Minor high edge wear on slide too. The most notable defect is a couple of areas on the right side of the frame that have minor freckling and some thin surface scratches. Minty bore and excellent grips.
