7/24/23 – This is a nice example of a Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, chambered in .45-70. The serial number is 320856, which dates the receiver to about 1886. There are US military inspection proofs on the breech and the barrel and a military cartouche on the stock that appears to be dated 1883. Overall, the gun is in fair condition. There isn’t much actual finish loss, but there is heavy brown patina and spotty oxidation throughout. Very nice wood stock for its age with only minor bruising and scratching here and there. Near-mint bore.
