4/26/23 – This is a nice example of a Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifle, chambered in .45-70. The serial number is 276283, which dates the receiver to about 1885. There are US military inspection proofs on the breech and the barrel, but no visible military cartouches on the stock. Overall, the gun is in fair condition. It has lost virtually all of its original finish with light spotty oxidation and pitting covering all of the metal parts. The wood stock is excellent but was likely sanded. Excellent, shiny bore with strong rifling and some very light spotty oxidation here and there. Comes with a cleaning rod and reproduction leather sling.
