11/9/23 – This is a great example of a Springfield Model 1903 bolt action rifle. The serial number on the receiver dates to 1917. The barrel is date stamped at the muzzle November of 1917, along with the flaming bomb. The wood stock is un-marked except for some faint numbering on the right side of the butt stock and shows a few minor dings and wear. The upper fore guard appears to be a replacement. The receiver may have been refurbished some time in the past, but the chamber area appears original with worn bluing. The bolt is stamped with “36” just behind the handle. The barrel bands appear replaced as well. The bore is shiny with very strong rifling and rates a strong 8 of 10. Fully functional piece with smooth action.
