8/2/23 – This is an original Smith & Wesson Model No 2 Old Army revolver, chambered in .32 Rimfire and manufactured between 1861-1874. Features a ribbed 6″ octagonal barrel and uses a “tip up” action introduced and patented for the Model 1. This example is the later variation, characterized by the addition of a third pin at the top strap to limit the travel upwards of the cylinder stop. Markings are crisp, with the top of the barrel maker marked, the cylinder showing the patent date, and the serial number stamped on the butt. The gun has retained roughly 30% of its original nickel finish, with signs of oxidation and brown patina throughout. More significant wear and surface scratches in areas around the cylinder and screws/pins on the left side of the frame. Bore has strong rifling but is pitted throughout. Comes with an original set of well-fitted brown wooden grips that have some minor dings and handling marks throughout. Mechanically excellent. Antique, so no licensing required.
