11/2/21 – This is a rare FEG 43M rifle, which became the Hungarian military rifle toward the latter parts of World War II. Largely based off the 35M, which was designed after World War I to use the rotating bolt mechanism rather than a straight-pull Mannlicher. It also featured a longer barrel and a new safety design. The 43M was further updated to use the 7.92×57 cartridge, and featured an angled bolt handle and bayonet socket. It was essentially a G98/40 with the Hungarian 35M-style barrel band, sling swivels and bayonet lug. This particular rifle is an early example, made in the first year of production. It’s all matching and original except for the bolt, which is mismatched, though only 20% of 43M production features matching bolts. Matching numbers include the buttplate, rear sight, receiver and trigger group. Original blue throughout which does show some general oxidation and patina. Stock is in terrific shape with only minor handling wear. Bore has good rifling but is frosted throughout and does require a thorough cleaning as it is currently dirty throughout. Comes with a worn period original sling.
