10/02/2024 – For sale is a Colt Model 1861 Special Rifled Musket made in 1862. Colt produced around 100,000 rifled muskets from 1861 to 1865, mostly for state contracts. This specific example was made for New Jersey as it’s stamped “NJ” on the left side. The metal is well-aged and has plenty of patina and oxidation but no pitting. The right side is stamped with Colt’s manufacturing, the American Eagle, and the year 1862. The top of the barrel is stamped 1862. The bore has light shining towards the beginning but it does get darker at the muzzle. The action locks up and the hammer releases properly. The spike bayonet is in good condition but is also aged with a patina.
