6/10/24 – This is a great condition S98/05 German rifle bayonet from 1917. The bayonet is in great condition, with what’s known as a “butcher” style blade. The blade is excellent (minty) for its age, with shiny original finish and no signs of sharpening or misuse. The base of the blade is maker stamped and the spine of the blade is Imperial proofed with a 1917 date. The hand guard and pommel show light surface patina and spots of darker aging patina. Original wood grip panels are in great shape. The Imperial proof stamps on the grip screws / rivets are matching to that on the push button, pommel, and on the mouth of the scabbard, which makes this a “matching” set. The scabbard has original blued finish and is excellent with minimal spotty surface patina. The leather frog is in great condition with no markings or stamps.
