10/1//24 – This is a great example of original WW1 German Trench Armor. This armor was developed in WW1 by the German Empire as an early attempt to create “bullet-proof” armor as well to protect against shrapnel. This armor would be officially deemed to heavy for standard infantry use and would instead see service with units who were not expected to be mobile, such as sentries and machine gunners. This example is in great shape given its age. There is still some of the original finish left on the armor, but it does have oxidation throughout. However, this oxidation is not effecting the integrity of the item. The item has what appears to be replacement straps. It does appear to have its original course felt like buffer pads in-between the sections. These buffer pads are present to help prevent the armor from making too much noise. Often called Lobster Armor given it’s appearance, this armor is just as iconic as any WW1 tank, plane or firearm, and has been seen in countless movies, video games, and other media involving WW1. This is truly an amazing piece of not only WW1 history, but also for the development of bullet-proof vests.
