4/18/22 – This is a rare Colt M1911 that was issued to the U.S. Marine Corps toward the end of 1917. It’s in the proper serial range for a small batch of 400 pistols that were shipped to the USMC at this time. There were only 5,000-6,000 total 1911’s sent to the marines from 1912-18, notably fewer than the U.S. Navy. This particular pistol is tough to rate as it has deep patina/oxidation. It’s most likely an old refinish as there appears to be some pitting on the frame (under the grips) that is blued over. It has a correct barrel with disconnect ‘P H’ marking and excellent bore. The grips show their age but have no cracks, and the left panel has a notable ding in it. Two-tone magazine with an ‘A’ on the toe. Comes with an original 1917-dated holster with Perkins Campbell maker mark. It has visible age and handling wear with a small tear in the top flap.
