8/14/20 – This is a scarce Simson Luger made in the Weimar period in Germany, between the wars. Simson started manufacturing lugers in 1925 using equipment from the old Erfurt arsenal. Production was very low as the German army was limited in size and equipment following the Treaty of Versailles. Simson & Co. was the only company authorized to produce lugers for the German army during this time but then the company was nationalized by the Nazis in 1933. So total production from 1925 -1933 was very limited – even more rare than the Krieghoff lugers. Only about 12,000 ever produced. This gun is all matching and all parts are correctly stamped with the Simson Eagle/6 proof mark, including the screws. The magazine is a WWI era mag with blank wood bottom. This gun was likely made 1931-32. The original finish is about 92% with most of the finish loss on the sideplate and left side of barrel. There is some patina all over, most pronounced on the straps. Original grips are present and have the full serial of the pistol inside. Bore is clean and shiny but shows a bit of wear to the rifling. Listing includes a police marked tool and an unmarked commercial holster.
