10/31/23 – This is a rare, somewhat unique “prototype” Luger holster. Similar prototype examples have been found on the market from time-to-time. There’s also accompanying images on this listing (not included) of old WW2 German patents, with this holster drawn and shown in one of the diagrams. This holster design obviously didn’t catch on and was never used by the German military. Interestingly, this holster does have a waffen military proof stamp on the front leather. It’s possible this could have been added later / postwar, but the stamp looks original and has faded with age, so we’re not sure. The leather is completely intact and original with all original stitching intact. Light surface wear throughout and normal pliability. The zippers on the lid are functional but we’re not sure what their purpose is. Our best guess is these zippers were supposed to attach to a uniform or shoulder strap / belt, and function similar to a dropping style holster. An interesting find nonetheless!
