2/5/24 – This is a rare Portuguese contract Mauser K98 rifle that was fulfilled under Nazi Germany, hence the waffenamt on stock and receiver. There were only 10,000 such examples produced. These rifles are straight off the assembly line German Military issued K98k Rifles, they are waffenamted and made just like any other 1941 Mauser made 98k , the only difference being that the stock and receiver bear the State Crest of Portugal. Indeed, many of these rifles were not even sent to the Portuguese but straight to the Russian Front, as they were diverted back into the German Army who had just invaded the Soviet Union. This one is nearly all matching and comes with an original matching-numbered bayonet. The screws are mismatched, as is the magazine floorplate. The stock has a waffenamt on the right side of the butt stock and a Portuguese crest on the left. The original bluing rates somewhere between 85-90% with most of the wear being on the rear barrel band and on the floor plate. Very nice wood stock with no major damage – just the typical signs of use. Excellent, shiny bore. Comes with a period-correct leather sling.
