7/19/22 – This is a scarce and interesting FN Browning High Power with tangent rear sight from ~1941. The pistol has about 90-92% of the original blue remaining, with matching serialized barrel, slide and frame. Minor high edge wear on the slide and front strap, and a minor patch of thinning in the slide legend, as well. But the interesting aspects of this pistol involve the military inspection markings or lack thereof. Shortly after the Germans captured the FN factory, the first German military accepted High Powers were made using parts already produced and waiting on the factory floor. So the earliest and most desirable variation would have still have a stock slot in the frame, and some mix of Belgian proofs. The next variation featured a single WaA613 proof on the trigger guard, but this example is missing that proof. It’s in the proper serial range for such an example, and this one does feature the WaA613 proof on the slide, and several more on the barrel. So this appears to either be a military/factory oversight, or a transitional example of some sort. It has the proper early grips with red painted interior. The slide stop may be a replacement as the finish is somewhat incongruent with the rest of the pistol. Bore has strong rifling but some frost and freckling throughout. Unmarked magazine. Comes with a repro holster.
