6/22/23 – This is a rare and desirable Winchester Model 12 Trench Shotgun that was issued to the U.S. military. It’s in the proper serial range for Winchester Model 12 trench guns, and has a parkerized finish. The parkerized finish is somewhat thin throughout, with more notable wear on the underside of the receiver and heat shield. This example is likely not a factory parkerized finish but likely an arsenal overhaul later in the war or after WW2, as the serial is earlier than noted factory parkerized examples. Receiver is U.S. marked with flaming bomb ordnance proof. Stock has GHD inspector’s mark over crossed cannons cartouche. Correct Model 12 stock with thicker wrist. The handguard is in good condition but the wrist of the stock does show several notable surface cracks. Original Winchester buttplate with no cracks or chips. Bore shows some frost but is generally shiny. The rivets on the front right side of the heat shield have come off, so it is a bit loose. 20in barrel marked ‘cyl’ is correct. Proper unmarked 4-row heat shield.
