10/1/24 – This is a rare TRIFECTA parts P.38 with Walther, Mauser and Spreewerke parts! It is a late date AC Frame P.38 (armorers replacement frame from Walther). There is also a trigger guard eagle on the frame, and it has no serial number. Then, it has a Mauser byf 44 slide with an added serial number. The barrel and locking block have no numbers on them either, however the barrel is CYQ marked and eagle/88 proofed. The locking block is WaA135 proofed. It’s a well-documented, but little known category of P.38’s. These guns were made in 1945 towards the end of the war. The general speculation is that these guns were not made at main Walther or Mauser factories. In an effort to increase production, labor services were sought outside of the factories, with any parts they could get. Much of which were spare, salvaged or armorer’s parts. One theory is they were built using camp labor at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp, but the truth is largely lost to history. The frame has a beautiful plum color to it. The gun shows virtually no wear except for on the takedown lever where it is a little buggered. The takedown lever is also a bit tight, which makes the action a bit tight when trying to remove the slide. Fitted with period-correct reddish-bakelite grips and comes with a “Waffen 706” marked jvd magazine. Stone-mint bore. De-cocker is not functional (typical for these end of war guns).
