5/6/22 – Here we have a rare and desirably Japanese Type 99 sniper rifle that was made in 1943-44 at the Nagoya Army Arsenal. They had a contract to produce 10,000 Type 99 sniper rifles, with the first 5,000 being fitted with the 4x scopes. At serial number 5,000 they started to use the smaller 2.5x scopes that were left in inventory from the earlier Kokura contract, which is what we have here. This one has an earlier Type 97 base that would’ve been used on the Kokura snipers, and this scope would originally be one of the 1000 issued for the Kokura Type 99 sniper rifles, so was likely just part of the leftover inventory. The scope is NTC marked, which is the Japan Typewriter Company and it has clear optics though there is some speckling in the sight window. The stock has correct inspectors marks on the underside, and the bayonet lug matches the receiver. The bolt is mismatched to the gun but is a proper curved example. The stock is in excellent condition but appears lightly treated with a very thin coat of lacquer. The finish on the receiver and rifle in general is in great shape with the mum fully intact. The sling is a postwar quick release example. Comes with a cleaning rod. Beautiful, shiny bore.
