5/10/23 – This is an original WW2 production Japanese Type 30 Bayonet. The bayonet is classified as a Variation D on page 206 of Labar’s book. This example features an excellent condition blued, fullered blade, straight cross guard, bird’s head pommel, contoured wood grips with washers and screws, and a tubular tipped metal scabbard. The blade is arsenal stamped on one side of the ricasso, as shown. This is by Hoten Arsenal, commonly referred to as Mukden arsenal. There were only around 3,000 bayonets produced by this arsenal during WW2. The cross guard and pommel have light surface patina but most of the original finish is intact. The wood grips show typical age but no major issues. The scabbard has light finish loss and mild surface patina but no dents or major issues. Overall an excellent wartime example.
